North Carolina Central University students will travel to Nassau, Bahamas, in late May to be a part of a mission service team that will provide support to Habitat for Humanity of the Bahamas and families impacted by disaster on the grand island.
The university’s Spiritual Development and Dialogue office, under the leadership of Rev. Gloria Winston-Harris, will partner with NCCU Wesley Campus Ministry in Durham, N.C., to send seven student leaders to serve families in need. The students and other mission workers will work at the island’s Habitat location painting, landscaping and doing light construction.
“Our student servant leaders have been committed to carrying out the mission of serving others from day one,” said Rev. Winston-Harris. “They are prepared to give back and eager to inspire the hearts of families that are in need of help.”
The NCCU team will be hosted by St. Michael’s Methodist Church of Nassau. In addition to providing home repairs, students will participate in ministry outreach activities with local community members.
“We are proud to extend our motto of truth and service to deserving families who live abroad,” said Rev. Winston-Harris. “We will share our Eagle Pride with everyone that we meet,” she added.
Students participating in the mission trip include: Ana Jones, Tia Howard, Quanedra Lane, Kayla Davis, Winston Holloway, Joshua McLaurin and Lyndsey Jones. The trip is co-sponsored by NCCU Wesley Campus Ministry, NC Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry, and NC Conference United Methodist Volunteers in Mission.
The Office of Spiritual Development and Dialogue provides robust programming and enrichment activities for students of all faiths, beliefs and cultures and creates opportunities for open dialogue among students and community members. Throughout the academic year, students participate in community service and leadership opportunities that support their spiritual development.
